It was great to attend the 10th birthday of Creative HQ at the revamped Avalon complex.
It is a great credit to everyone associated with Creative HQ that it has evolved so far over 10 years. Critical to that successful evolution has been leadership of Steve O'Connor, who only recently moved on as General Manager of Creative HQ. Steve has been a very thoughtful, astute and considerate leader, and the performance of the incubator has improved consistently under his guardianship. And technology development across the region has undoubtedly benefited from the incubator's efforts.
Steve's exit has been quiet and unobtrusive - very like his leadership. When I think of his leadership style and that quiet departure, I am reminded of an old Chinese proverb, which I think Steve epitomised: " The great leader leaves them saying, 'We did it ourselves’.”
All the very best for the future Steve. I'm sure that whatever you do around Wellington region, you will inevitably make a major contribution to the evolution of Technology Valley.
