Fraser Carson and his colleagues have worked tirelessly to promote Technology Valley using their Flightdec shared content technology. Those of us who have worked alongside Fraser in the Technology Valley Working Group hope that now the website is up and running, Hutt Valley and other Wellington Regional technology based businesses, scientists, engineers and others with something to contribute will register on the technologyvalley.co.nz site and become part of the movement to build Technology Valley as a genuine, proud and acknowledged location.
A key element of the whole concept centres upon companies linking strongly into our region's research and development strengths. With Callaghan Innovation now in operation, WelTec Connect and the Centre for Smart Product servicing industry effectively, and three Universities operating in the region, the opportunity has never been better.
If we can build a network of science-based enterprises across the region, we can create - in conjunction with our widely recognised IT industry - an economy based on technological networks, IP commercialisation and transfer to industry, leadtime over competitors, and other technical barriers to entry - a recipe for a dynamic, robust and high value economic future. Beats "dying" every time!
